The organization describes itself as standing &#8220;at the intersection of literature and human rights to protect free expression in the United States and worldwide.&#8221; For over 100 years, they have stood behind writers and their rights to express themselves&#8230; and our rights to access this bedrock of culture: the written word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1922, this organization has taken action to protect our culture, <a href=\"https:\/\/actionnetwork.org\/forms\/support-the-freedom-to-read\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">defending banned books<\/a>, publishing <a href=\"https:\/\/pen.org\/how-to-fight-book-bans-a-tip-sheet-for-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">tip sheets for students<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/pen.org\/librarian-tip-sheet-harassment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">librarians<\/a>, bring <a href=\"https:\/\/pen.org\/issue\/free-the-books\/#:~:text=DONATE%20TODAY-,WE%27RE%20SUING,-PEN%20America%2C%20Penguin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">legal action<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/pen.org\/press-releases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">report<\/a> on the state of censorship in the US. This is an important fight. Controlling literature means controlling culture. And that is exactly the plan, to silence anybody and any thing that doesn&#8217;t fit with a very specific worldview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cultural suppression relies on doublethink<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as in 1984, doublethink confers <strong>power<\/strong>. Power to deny reality. Power to deny others rights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever 99+% of climate scientists say, it&#8217;s a hoax. And even if it isn&#8217;t a hoax, we didn&#8217;t do it. And even if we did, we can&#8217;t change it. (Oooh, triplethink! Suuuuper power.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the way, my guy won the election. Who cares about actual evidence when I just <em>know<\/em> it?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Religious freedom means you have to do what I say, and that I can discriminate against you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, we need your help.
