It attempts to curate their life, attempts to narrow it to our own limitations<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Every teenager knows&#8230; make something forbidden, and everyone will want it. Throughout history, the phrase <em>banned book<\/em> doesn&#8217;t conjure images of <em>the good guys<\/em>. Worldwide, and increasingly in the US, religious conservatives have been leading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/10\/17\/1206219484\/scholastic-book-fair-diversity-book-bans\" title=\"\">a movement to ban any books<\/a> that don&#8217;t line up with their worldview. Surely, many of these pushes are sincere attempts of parents to protect their children. In reality, it often <em>feels <\/em>like social engineering intended to stamp out everyone not like them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The religious community has all but lost the trust of our LGBTQA+ siblings. <a href=\"https:\/\/re-faith.org\/index.php\/about-us\/\" title=\"About us\">We at Re: are doing something about it.<\/a> When literature is silenced, important stories aren&#8217;t told. Invariably, the marginalized, the poor, and the powerless are the ones whose narratives get <em>disappeared<\/em>. Given the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newportacademy.com\/resources\/mental-health\/lgbt-suicide-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">rates of suicide among queer youth<\/a>, this amounts to spiritual genocide. Regardless of the intent, restricting anyone&#8217;s right to be authentically who they are is wrong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Censorship of people&#8217;s <em>existence<\/em> is <a href=\"https:\/\/re-faith.org\/index.php\/theology-faith-fellowship-and-focus\/\" title=\"\">against our beliefs<\/a> at Re.
